Top Three List URL Shorteners are best for SEO

There’s been plenty of discussion around URL shorteners and their impact on SEO over the last few months.

Well Google has officially come out and confirmed that “link value” through URL shorteners is preserved as Google treats them similar to a 301 permanent redirect.

Good news for all those people who use URL shorteners and more importantly, it means that much of the link building being done through social media will have long term benefits for your SEO.

So with this in mind, which are the best URL shortening services for SEO?

Goo.gl: This one is direct from Google. Goo.gl’s short URLs are always 301 redirect making it fast secure and perfect for SEO. It also provides a great range of stats about the clicker. Google automatically removes spam links from its database, so it’s building trust from users.

TinyURL: One of the most popular URL shorteners available. It is the default shortener for many social media tools such as Twitter. While Tiny URL doesn’t provide click stats, it does allow you to customize your URL.

Bit.ly: bit.ly, like tinyURL has been around for a while and is the trusted default for many tools. It offers a simple one click shortening service with a simple URL tracking feature. This means you can now track Bit.ly shortened URLs by just placing a ‘+’ after the URL. And it also provides URL customization.

So they’re my picks for the top three. Google’s link shortener is obviously my favorite for SEO as they understand the importance of linking from a search indexing perspective.

How to make a Dazzling Blog Web Title for SEO

The main purpose of a blog title is to grab the attention of the reader. The title should be compelling enough to make the visitor read the entire post. You need to write a blog title which is both search engine friendly and attention grabbing. If you lose the balance, you may rank well in the search engines, but due to a shabby title- no visitor will enter your site.

A title forms the first line of every search result and is the first thing a visitor sees about a website. In fact, many visitors enter the website upon reading the title and without so much of a glance towards the description.

Tips for Writing an SEO and reader Dazzling Web page Title:
  • The title should not exceed 65 characters. A Major search engine like Google displays only 65 characters in the search result. You may exceed the title, but take care to include all the important keywords in the front portion.
  • Try and keep the title as a sentence rather than many short keywords. The visitor will find this more interesting.
  • Separate phrases, keywords with a |. Using a | works much better than a comma or semicolon.
  • Include all the related keywords aesthetically into the title. I have come across so many search results wherein the title is stuffed with keywords.
  • Always write the title before the content. You will get a clear perspective of what you want to write about in the blog. Writing a blog without a title is like cooking without knowing what the end preparation will be.
  • If you have to optimize an e-commerce site, do not enter the title for all the web pages manually. Set up a template for each category and ask the website programmer to embed it into the website.
  • The most important of all: Ensure that your Title tag makes sense and reflects the content of the web page. Your title tag gets the visitor to enter the website and should deliver what it promises.

Google has released the Google Analytics Version 5, the newest Google Analytics to all users (of all languages). Users can find a 'New Version' link on the top right of their account page when they sign in. The new version has some notable changes made to it such as the redesigned interface, event goals, multiple customizable dashboards, more powerful custom reports and the search term cloud visualization among others.

The graphical and faster interface and the multiple dashboards features of the new version seem to be impressing site owners who have expressed their delight. It allows users to create a dashboard for each person or group involved with a site. A maximum number of 20 custom dashboards with up to 12 widgets for each dashboard can be created with the latest version. Another feature in the new version worth mention is the event-based goals that informs the user when a PDF white paper is downloaded. The user can also give different values to white papers on the basis of the business value of each download.

New Google Analytics have generated both positive and negative buzz from various users. While some find the new additions and improvements helpful, there are others that points out certain snags, comparing the V5 to its older form.

Main Navigation: - It is interesting to see that Google Analytics has adopted the look and feel of the new Google navigation bar released back in February. As we can see below, the new navigation bar prioritizes the following:

  1. Account Home: Page where we can find all the accounts to which we have access to.
  2. Dashboards: page where we can find all dashboards from a specific account.
  3. My Site: the place where all reports live, which is now divided between reports and intelligence.
  4. Custom Reports: page where we can manage and create custom reports.
  5. Account Manager: links to all accounts we have access to.
  6. Settings: page with all the accounts in which we can change the settings (i.e., those we are granted with administrator access)
Google is reported to have promptly fixed some of the issues being pointed out by various users. Users can join the Google forum for the new Analytics beta and raise queries or discuss or follow Google Analytics on Twitter for any new update.

Best WordPress SEO Plug-ins for Small Businesses

In the world of computers everything gets an acronym and this one basically just means that your blog or website is set up in such a way that it is friendly to Google and the other major search engines. It allows the search engines to find your content and return your sites in their results when people search for things online.

If you are using a WordPress blog, which is what I recommend to all my clients, you have the benefit of a massive library of plugins to help you with your Search Engine Optimization. In the old days we had to do all of this by hand by going into the code of a site and changing things around. Now we have great plugins to help us.

Search Engine Optimization plugin is free and is easy to download from the WordPress site. When you download it you will need to go into the options page and make some minor setup changes and then every time you make a post or create a page on your site you will be able to list the keywords, create a summary description of the post and make keyword rich titles.

The next essential plugin that you should have is called XML sitemaps. This plugin allows you to create a sitemap for your blog that is friendly to the search engines. Site maps are very important because these are the quickest way for Google to index your site and learn what all is available from you.

We are much more inclined to watch a video than we are to read pages and pages of an eBook. So when you have photos on your site you need this plugin. This plugin will allow you to attach what is called metadata to each of the photos that you put up on your site. So if you have a photo that is associated with a post that you have made the photo will get the title and keywords associated with it as well.

This will allow this photo to show up in Google Photos and allows your blog to have better Search Engine Optimization in general. The plugin is called SEO Friendly Images and it is free.

Reason of Google Analytics Bounce Rate for a Website

One of the most important factors to consider while performing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) activities is to check for the bounce rate of website. Google Analytics can provide in depth statistics regarding Bounce Rate. In simple, bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who closes your website without browsing any other webpage. So this can give you the clue of what exactly you need to do or incorporate into your website to decrease this rate.

There are many entrance paths to your website. One of the most visited and important path is the home or index page of a website. Many visitors come through this path and if they are unable to find information they are looking for, they might simply close your website without browsing any other page and so your bounce rate will start to increase.

In fact, each and every webpage should be optimized in such a manner that when a visitor land on it should find the information that he was looking for. For example, if a visitor comes to your site through Google organic search with the keyword of “software download” then your landing page should have this download available with other relevant software in the categories if possible. This would definitely increase visitor loyalty to browse more pages of your website and hence will result in the decrease of bounce rate and increase of achievement of your primary goals. Content rich websites should not have bounce rate of more than 60%. There can be varying level of thresholds for different websites out there but it is always good to have this ratio as low as possible.

How to check bounce rate in Google Analytics: Follow the steps below-

  • Login to your Google Analytics account
  • On the main Dashboard screen, you will see Bounce Rate in the right panel, showing you the overall bounce rate for your website.
  • You can check the detail stats by clicking on this link. See the screen shot below:-

How to Make Money with Google AdSense

Google Adsense is an advertisement application. Website owners can put Adsense on their website and generate cash when the ads are clicked on by visitors. There are many ways to make money with Adsense, all you need is a lot of traffic to your website and you should start making some money.

The idea is to build thousands of individual blogs, so let’s take Blogspot.com and create 10 blogs a day over the next 100 days. That would be 1,000 blogs. Now each blog can talk about maybe the next SEO, Google AdSense, Link Marketing, Web Development etc. You want to talk about hot topics and different types of blog that people will search for.

You can also create a Facebook site, Twitter, You tube if you want to go the video route… there are many different ways to get each blog out there.

After you build the blogs and start submitting them, the best place to put the Adsense code is in the middle of the blog. So think of an eight line paragraph, put the code right in the middle and on the left hand side as well.

Now that you got your marketing going, you got blogs piling up; your code set… the only thing you need to keep doing is just repeating the trend. If you can average just $5 a day on each blog, multiple that by 1,000 and that is $5,000 per month.

Google Launches AdSense Custom Search Ads

Google has given AdSense publishers the opportunity to increase their ad revenue by launching a new AdSense format, Custom Search Ads. AdSense users can now make their ads more targeted on search-oriented sites for the same key words their targeted users are searching. Users on the other hand will now benefit by seeing more ads that are relevant to their search.

This type of targeting will be especially relevant for travel search engines, job search sites or product search sites. Publishers can display ads targeted to the same search query used to return search results.

In addition to great targeting, Custom Search Ads are designed to fit your existing search results’ look and feel. Instead of pre-defined sizes, you can specify the precise width of each ad unit along with the number of individual ads to display the ad layout, font size, font face, and much more.

Google has already begun testing this new AdSense format on a few sites i.e. eCrater.com. If you are interested in seeing how these new ads look, then check out these sites. Google expects to expand the program to more sites in the near future.

Having tested some new search ad extensions like locations, images, page links and merchant information on their result pages recently, Google has also launched two new features for the Custom Search ads. These include:

  • Ad Sitelinks – which aims to increase the significance of ads by displaying up to 4 additional links to specific, relevant content within the publishers site
  • Seller Ratings – ads will receive a star rating based on the reviews of the business across various sites on the web. Advertisers can benefit from Seller Ratings if their ads are being recommended by regular online buyers
Both of these new features do not require the AdSense publisher to upload any search code to their ads.

Optimizing Your Website for Multiple Locations

If your business serves multiple locations you can employ a number of different optimization approaches to reach these groups. One method that can be particularly effective involves optimizing individual pages on your website for each different location.

This type of targeting can be done on any level whether it’s city, state or area specific. When customers search for local keywords, this will give your business the greatest chance of being found in organic search results.

How to Optimize Each Location Page: Optimizing each location page to appear for local searches uses the same basic principles found in any SEO campaign.

Keyword Selection: Use your core set of keywords along with location based modifiers. For example, if your business is a Web Designers you may like to use terms like, Web Design New York, SEO New York, New York Web Developer etc.

On Page Optimization

  • Use the one core key-phrase along with the location you are targeting in the filename of the web page.
  • Use your local based keywords in the Title and Description Meta tags on the page.
  • Use one of your main keywords and the location in the H1 (heading) tag for the page.
  • Write about 3-4 paragraphs of content on the page and include the keywords identified above throughout this copy.
  • If your business delivers to the local area you may wish to include some of the suburbs you deliver to for some additional local targeting.
If you have multiple office locations there are a number of additional optimization steps you can take for each page. The image below gives a nice overview of how these pages can be structured.

Using this strategy for your most important local markets is a good way to get noticed and improve your ranking in organic search results.

How to Keep Your Google Ranking during a Website Re-design

One of the biggest factors the search engines use when determining your ranking is trust. Google is more inclined to trust a site that has been in existence for a while and that has many incoming links to it. Often, when rebuilding a site, you end up changing the URLs of your web pages. The problem is though that these new URLs don’t have the trust that the old URLs do, even if a lot of the content is the same.

When you take your established content and place it somewhere else, you are effectively resetting the clock on when that content was created and breaking all of the inbound links that pointed to it.

How can you re-establish this trust with the search engines?
The most effective way to tell the search engines that you’ve moved your content is through the 301 redirect. By setting up 301 redirects for your content, you show search engines where your content has moved from, and your inbound links will now direct to your new pages.

Six Tips on How to Make $500 Dollars a Day with Adsense

Google’s Adsense program provides the perfect way to generate an ongoing passive stream of income for the savvy internet entrepreneur. It is free to join and easy to set up.

I hear you ask, if it’s so easy why everyone isn’t making piles of money by slapping Adsense code into the pages of their websites.

Well there are a number of factors that contribute to a webmaster’s success with Adsense not least of all having a contextual website.

If you base your quest to make $500 dollars a day with Adsense on the following, you stand a good chance of sustained success.

1. Don’t build a site for Adsense: Apart from being against Adsense’s TOS, site’s created purely to carry Adsense ads don’t work in the long term.

They will in all likelihood get banned by Google, won’t make money as well as making it difficult for you to open another Adsense account.

2. Build a Site with Content: Sounds obvious doesn’t it, but sites that are interesting and packed with compelling content are more likely to be revisited and related ads are more likely to be clicked upon.

Be sure to use your own original content - sites that duplicate content get penalized by Google.

Remember that rubbish sites generate rubbish income.

3. Choose Your Site’s Topic Carefully: Whilst your site should be based on your business interests or your hobby to keep your motivation levels high, just keep in mind that certain topics will attract higher value Adsense clicks than others.

For example a website on the mating habits of the north sea clam probably won’t attract any advertisers and therefore no Google Ads to display, let alone traffic.

Making money online and web hosting are topics that will never be short of advertisers, however the competition is higher and therefore more difficult to attract website traffic.

4. Niche Market: Your best bet is to target a niche market that does not have the competition in terms of fellow webmasters but still has a certain amount of interest.

Therefore if your website is cameras, targeting “digital cameras” would be a very competitive term, whilst targeting “underwater digital cameras for scuba divers” would be less competitive and will attract targeted traffic as well as related Adsense ads.

It is important that you understand that the text and keywords you use and the placement thereof will influence the type of ads that are served up by Google.

5. Type of Ads and Placement: The placement of your ads on your web page has a direct influence on your CTR (Click Thru Rate) - the higher the CTR the more clicks your ads are generating and the more money you are making.

To this end, take special note of the heat map provided by Google that shows the best positions for your ads on your web pages.

Also decide carefully on the type of ads and the colors that you choose – the type that blend in well with the look, feel and flow of your site will probably be best in silently persuading your visitors to click on them.

6. Traffic Statistics: Finally analyze your adsense traffic stats as they’re packed with useful information – Google provides such a tool for this purpose with your Adsense account.
